Foundation Grants for IndividualsBy Reggie Andersen Programs that are used widely in schools may be funded by a foundation grant. Those that are interested in beginning a new program within a school setting may appeal to a foundation that typically awards money for these types of endeavors. If a foundation offers a grant in the field of science, a teacher or group of teachers may apply to the foundation to institute materials from current research into their classroom. This will benefit the students by being exposed to the most up to date research available in their studies. These grants are not limited to education. They are available in most fields that include trials of current research. When one reads about research that has been done and has been proven to be beneficial in their field, they may decide that theyd like to see that program instituted where they are. That is usually the beginning, if they can get others interested and get approval from their superiors they may decide to try for a foundation grant in order to institute the program. When the program has been instituted theyll decide whether or not it is as beneficial as they believed it to be. If it is, they may have to continue to apply for this grant yearly in order to continue the program. If it does not show success, they will discontinue the program and not apply again for the grant. A foundation grant may be applied for first with paperwork and a solid reason why this grant will be beneficial in the way in which the foundation would like to see it. This is typically in the form of an essay or presentation that will be presented to those on the board that decide where the money should go. If your presentation convinces them that you are worth their money, they may ask for a further interview to go over the details of your program. If its still acceptable to them, they may decide to give you the money to institute the program. Once they are convinced that their money has been used as they have intended, they dont play much of a role. Since they are not looking to profit from your program, they are usually satisfied once they know that their money was spent the way it was intended to be. This foundation grant will help innovative minds institute programs that they believe in. They finance those programs until they have been proven to work or not work. If a positive result is found, they will continue the grant sometimes for years. They are a wonderful resource when one wants to try an innovative idea but does not have the funds to do so.
