The Aspen Global Innovators Group Impact West Africa Fellowship program application is officially open for passionate individuals committed to advocacy.

This initiative is dedicated to amplifying the voices of leaders with proximate and lived expertise, focusing on West African leaders’ knowledge and insights. The inaugural Impact Fellowship program, launched in Senegal in 2023, marks a significant step in this direction, creating a platform to nurture a new generation of influential advocates for African development.

The program’s core mission is to prioritize Africa’s development priorities and empower advocates from French-speaking and English-speaking West African countries, spotlighting key issues unique to the Francophone and Anglophone regions.

What Does This Fellowship Program Entail?

1) Two In-Person Week-Long Convenings:

  • Advocacy Focus: Participants will engage in intensive sessions covering key elements of advocacy, effective strategies, and advocacy’s role in driving social change.
  • Strategic Engagement for Advocacy: Fellows will be expected to explore essential communication tools, refine skills, and explore fundraising and networking strategies vital for effective advocacy.

2) Quarterly Virtual Trainings:

Each quarter, fellows will attend online sessions addressing cohort-specific needs, enhancing skills, and empowering them as change agents in West Africa. Topics include:

  • Community Mobilization and Engagement
  • Coalition Building
  • Arts and Activism
  • Measuring Impact and Harvesting Outcomes
  • Narrative Change
  • Media and Digital Advocacy Strategies
  • Community-Led Advocacy Campaigns
  • Policy Analysis and Influencing Decision-Makers

3) Professional Mentorship Support:

Core to the fellowship, mentoring, and coaching will pair each fellow with an experienced mentor. These mentors offer personalized guidance, support advocacy, and strategic engagement development. Regular check-in meetings assess progress, set goals, and address challenges and opportunities.

Eligibility Requirements for the Impact West Africa Fellowship

To be eligible for this scholarship, you should:

What’s The Duration of This Fellowship?

  • Applicants must attend two in-person convenings lasting approximately 5 days, including full-day sessions and cohort bonding activities. Tentative dates are set for September 2024 and January/February 2025.
  • Applicants are required to participate in all three virtual training sessions, tentatively scheduled for November, April, and July.
  • Mentorship meetings will be scheduled based on the availability of both the fellow and mentors, with the expectation that Fellows will meet with their mentor at least once per month.
