Google Conference Scholarship Eligibility

For you to qualify for a scholarship to attend Google’s international conference, you should meet the following requirements:

  • Hold a Student Status: the first and most important requirement you must meet is to be a full-time student. Additionally, you should demonstrate a need for conference travel funds and, more importantly, be enrolled at a recognized African university.
  • Accepted Paper: The next requirement is that your paper must be accepted at a top-tier computer science conference. So, keep in mind that your paper should be aligned with Google’s interests (research areas) so that your paper will be given preference. To know which research areas you can visit research.google.com.
  • Hold the authorship: If the submitted paper is accepted, you must have been the sole or joint first author.
  • Ineligible candidates: If you are a Google employee, you are not eligible to apply for these scholarships. Additionally, you do not qualify if you fall into any of these categories:
  1. If you are a resident of embargoed countries
  2. If you are ordinarily resident in embargoed countries
  3. If applicable export controls and sanctions programs prohibit you, you are also not eligible to apply.

KEY POINTS TO NOTE

Here are some of the key points to note regarding the application, review, and rewards for this scholarship program.

  1. Early application Recommended: If you’re an interested and qualified individual, you are advised to apply for the grant well in advance of the conference start date. This is because the payment completion timeline can range between 5-8 weeks.
  2. Rolling Basis Review: All applications submitted are reviewed continuously throughout the year. This is done to ensure that eligible applicants receive a response approximately four weeks after applying.
  3. Payment to University: Upon approval of a travel grant, the funds will be disbursed to the applicant’s university. The student can then claim expenses using the standard procedures established by the university.
  4. Top Students Only: Scholarships will be granted to the most qualified applicants following a thorough review process. Applicants will receive notifications regarding their status within the specified time frames for their region.
