2024 MTN Foundation Scholarship Program for Nigerian Students

To promote academic excellence and empower the youth, the MTN Foundation is now accepting applications for its 2024 Scholarship Program for Nigerian students. This transformative initiative, a key element of MTN’s Youth Development Cause, aims to provide essential financial assistance to dedicated, high-performing students across Nigerian public tertiary institutions.

Categories of MTN Foundation Scholarships

This MTN Foundation program comprises three main scholarship categories:

1. MTN Science and Technology Scholarship (STS)

The MTN Science and Technology Scholarship (STS) is the foundation’s flagship program since 2010. This scholarship program is tailored for 300-level students pursuing Science and Technology-related courses. Annually, 300 deserving students receive scholarships worth N200,000 each, sustaining their academic journey until graduation, provided they maintain the required academic standards.

2. MTN Scholarship for Blind Students (SBS)

For blind students, the MTN Scholarship for Blind Students (SBS) has been a beacon of hope since 2012. This program supports 200 and 300-level blind students across various disciplines. In 2024, the SBS program will expand its reach, awarding N300,000 annually to 100 blind students, up from 60 in previous years, ensuring they can achieve their educational goals.

3. Top 10 UTME Scholarship

Lastly, the Top 10 UTME Scholarship, which was introduced in 2020, celebrates the top 10 high-scoring candidates of the UTME as announced by JAMB. These outstanding students receive N300,000 (up from N200,000) annually from their 100 level through to graduation, irrespective of their chosen field of study or institution.

Requirements for MTN Foundation Science and Technology Scholarship (STS)

If you’re interested in MTN Foundation Science and Technology Scholarship, then you should meet the following requirements:

A. Institution of Study

  • You should be a Nigerian student enrolled in public tertiary institutions (College of Education, Polytechnic, and University).
  • Starting in 2024, the number of blind students receiving scholarships has increased from 60 to 100.

NOTE: The annual award amount has increased from N200,000 to N300,000, and it is awarded until graduation, provided grade requirements are met.

B. Course of Study

When it comes to course study requirements, here’s what you need to know:

  • It’s open to 300-level students studying Science & Technology-related courses at Nigerian public tertiary institutions.
  • The SBS program is available for 200 and 300-level blind students studying any course at these institutions.

C. Level of Study

You should have completed your second semester 200 level exams and be moving to the 300 level or already in your 300 level. We understand academic calendars can vary, so we’re flexible with this requirement.

D. Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA)

Finally, the academic performance requirements are:

  • STEM students in public universities and colleges need at least a CGPA of 3.0/4 or 3.5/5 (second-class upper credit).
  • For the Ordinary National Diploma (OND) program, a minimum CGPA of 3.0 (upper credit) is required for STEM students in public polytechnics. In addition, you must have secured admission into the Higher National Diploma (HND) program.
  • If you’re a direct entry-level STEM student, you must have achieved at least a CGPA of 3.0 (upper credit) from the OND program. In addition, you also need to have secured admission into the 300 level/3rd year in a public university.

Requirements for MTN Foundation Scholarship for Blind Students (SBS)

If you fall into this category, here are the requirements for applying to the MTN Scholarship for Blind Students (SBS):

A. Institution of Study

  • To be eligible, you must be a Nigerian student studying at a public university, polytechnic, or college of education.
  • Starting in 2024, the number of scholarships awarded specifically in this category to blind students will increase from 60 to 100.

B. Course of Study

  • There is no specific course requirement. This scholarship is open to 200 and 300-level blind students studying any course at Nigerian public tertiary institutions (colleges of education, polytechnics, and universities).

C. Level of Study

  • 200 and 300-level blind students are eligible for this scholarship as long as they study at any Nigerian public tertiary institution.
  • However, if you are studying Law, which is a 5-year course, keep in mind that only 300-level students are eligible to apply for the MTN Scholarship.

D. Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA)

  • You need to have attained a minimum CGPA of 2.5 to be eligible (for university and college students).
  • For students in public polytechnics, a minimum CGPA of 2.0 from the Ordinary National Diploma (OND) program is required. Additionally, you need to have secured admission into the Higher National Diploma (HND) program as well to be qualified.
