If you are a young and upcoming anaesthesiologist in Nigeria or any other neighbouring country, this might be the perfect opportunity for you. The 2024 Paediatric Anaesthesia Training in Africa (PATA) Fellowship for Nigeria Students is currently open for application.

This paediatric anaesthesia fellowship is a funded scholarship program that will take place in Nigeria starting September 2024. The local faculty, as well as visiting specialists, will be the ones providing teachings during this fellowship program.

Requirements for Paediatric Anaesthesia Training in Africa (PATA) Fellowship

To ensure that the applicant is not only qualified in their field but also has the necessary support, commitment, and alignment with the goals of the fellowship program, they have to meet the following requirements.

  1. First of all, you have to be registered and practising medical practitioners in your country or where you are at the moment.
  2. In addition, you should have completed specialized training in anaesthesia. This is a requirement that ensures you have the required skills and knowledge for the fellowship.
  3. To be an ideal candidate, you must also have a keen interest in paediatric anaesthesia and teaching. Your genuine interest in paediatric anaesthesia will benefit you fully from this opportunity.
  4. Your application must be supported by your national anaesthesiology society. However, not all societies can certify and support your application; the ones allowed are those members of the World Federation of Societies of Anaesthesiologists (WFSA).
  5. In addition to WFSA support, you will also need official support from the head of the department or hospital management of your workplace. This helps showcase your commitment to professional development in the field.
  6. To be a successful applicant, you must return to your home country and take positions in recognized posts. This enables you to contribute more to healthcare in your communities.
  7. While not mandatory, you should ideally work in a teaching hospital.

PATA Fellowship Application Documents

To successfully apply for this position, here are the application documents that you will be required to provide:

  • Copy of your medical degree
  • Curriculum vitae
  • 2 recommendation letters: One from your head of department or hospital management (where you work), and the other is from your national anaesthesiology society (must be a member of WFSA)
  • A copy specialist anaesthesiology qualification
  • A registration certificate from the medical board or council of your country
  • A copy of a valid and active medical license from your country’s medical board or council.
  • Copy of photograph page of passport

How to apply for this fellowship

To be part of the 2024 Paediatric Anaesthesia Training in Africa (PATA) Fellowship that will be held in Nigeria, then you should:

  • Got to the WFSA Online Application Platform.
  • If you already have a WFSA account, select ‘Start application’ under the ‘All other WFSA Awards’ icon. If you don’t have one, you can simply log in with your Google account and proceed to the next step.
  • On the next page, you will have to select Chapter ‘Fellowships.
  • After that, you can select PATA Abuja Fellowship 2024 in the category section. 
  • Follow the instructions and provide all the required application details
  • Submit your entry and be ready for an interview

NOTE: All applications must be submitted before the deadline, 15th May 2024.

Key Points to Note

Important Notes:

  1. Only eligible candidates will have to undergo interviews for the position.
  2. The successful applicants will be notified via email by 1st June 2024.
  3. The final and most important point is that accepted applicants must confirm their scholarship acceptance within 3 days of notification. If you fail to do so within that specified period, your scholarship position will be offered to the next candidate.
