Benefits of University of Melbourne Graduate Research Scholarships

The 2024 Melbourne Graduate Research Scholarships offer several sets of benefits to its successful applicants:

  1. Fee Offset: If you are pursuing a Masters degree, then you will get a full fee offset for up to two years, but undertaking a doctoral degree, you get four four-year full fee offset
  2. Stipend: For the stipend category, you will be eligible to get:
  • $37,000 Living allowance (per year pro rata – 2024 full-time study rate) for up to 2 or 3.5 years, respectively. This allowance may be indexed annually, and it includes parenting, maternity leave, and paid sick leave.
  • $3000 relocation grant for international students(moving from outside Australia) and $2000 for domestic students moving from states or territories other than Victoria.
  • If you’re an international student, you will also get Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) Single Membership (Only for applicants with student visas to study in Australia).

Requirements for University of Melbourne Graduate Research Scholarships

For you to be currently to be eligible for this scholarship, you must meet the following requirements:

  • First, you should currently be a student at the University of Melbourne pursuing a graduate research degree or
  • Have applied for for a graduate research degree at the University of Melbourne (note: you should meet the requirements).

Additional factors considered: You should

  • Have relevant professional experience.
  • Have completed a degree program that’s on the same level as the research course for which the scholarship is sought.
  • Have specialist medical qualifications.
  • Provide refereed publications.
  • Composition of original music.

Selection Process

If you’re planning to apply for this scholarship, then you should note that eligible applicants will be scored and ranked according to:

  • Academic achievement of their last completed degree.
  • Research potential in their field of study.

In addition to these, you should also note these things:

  • All domestic students will receive a Research Training Program Scholarship (Fee Offset). But to receive this, you need to be admitted or have applied for admission to a doctoral degree (PhD) or Masters by Research degree at the University of Melbourne.
  • For international as well as domestic students will be set to receive Graduate Research Scholarships that provide a stipend as well as a fee offset. Remember, the award will be based on academic merit.

Outcome:

As part of their course offer, domestic students will be set to receive a Research Training Program Scholarship (Fee Offset).

Graduate Research Scholarships are awarded separately. This only applies to scholarships that include a stipend and fee offset but are usually awarded around the same time as the course offers.

Here are some of the key points to keep in mind:

  • New Students: You will automatically be considered for the Graduate Research Scholarships if you have applied for a graduate research course on time (before the deadline). You will be notified of your application within ten business days of submitting your course application.
  • Deferred Commencement: If you want to defer the commencement of the accepted graduate research course offer, you should submit your application form online before October 3. You will be notified about your application within 10 business days of submitting the form.
  • Currently Enrolled Students: To be considered for the scholarship, submit your application for a graduate research course by October 31 to be considered for a scholarship in the following year. You will also be notified within ten business days of submitting the online form.
