UNESCO/Poland Co-Sponsored Fellowships in Engineering 2024 Edition

To help foster international understanding and enhance human resource capacities in developing countries, Poland and UNESCO have a co-sponsored fellowship for students outside the European continent. The UNESCO/Poland Co-Sponsored Fellowships in Engineering offer a unique opportunity for those of you in the Technology and Engineering fields.

This fellowship is sponsored by the Polish National Commission for UNESCO and the UNESCO Chair for Science, Technology, and Engineering at AGH University of Krakow (Poland). It provides thirty (30) slots to benefit developing specific Member States.

This fellowship will provide a perfect environment for members to engage in individual research programs focusing on Science, Technology, and Engineering.

Who is eligible to apply for this fellowship?

Only members from the invited member state will be eligible to apply for this fellowship. Individuals from the following regions are invited:

  • Africa
  • Arab States
  • Asia And the Pacific
  • Latin America and The Caribbean

How long will UNESCO/Poland Co-Sponsored Fellowships last?

The fellowship is set to take place at the AGH University of Krakow, and it will take six months, starting on 1 October 2024 and ending on 31 March 2025.

Qualifications for UNESCO/Poland Co-Sponsored Fellowships

  1. You should demonstrate proficiency in both reading and writing English.
  2. You should be under the age of 40 years.
  3. If you’re applying from abroad, you will potentially be required to fulfil specific English language or other language proficiency criteria to qualify for enrolment.
  4. You are required to possess either a Bachelor’s or M.Sc. degree. However, you will be the ideal candidate if you hold a Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng) or a Master of Engineering (M.Eng) degree.

What Facilities Will Be Offered During This UNESCO Fellowship?

  • If your application goes through, UNESCO will pay for the international travel ticket to Poland (up to the final destination).
  • You’re also set to get health insurance. UNESCO will provide this as a policy covering any medical bills you might have during the fellowship period.
  • Finally, you will be guaranteed a US$120 (per person) special pocket allowance that will be given out all at once.

How to Apply for UNESCO/Poland Fellowship

STEP 1: Before starting the application process, you should first check if your country is eligible to apply for this fellowship. If it is, then you can proceed to the next step.

STEP 2: If eligible, then carefully read the Terms and Conditions (Annex II) and Annex III, which contain a List of fields of research & projects and their respective criteria. These two documents will give you all the important information you need to know regarding the UNESCO/Poland Co-Sponsored Fellowships 2024 edition.

STEP 3: Check out the application procedures at the national level specifically for your country. You can do this by contacting your country’s National Commission for UNESCO. Click Here to access the contact details for your country’s National Commission.

STEP 4: Submit your application details as well as supporting documents as mentioned in Annex II to the National Commissions of your country of Origin. These documents include:

  • Your UNESCO fellowship application form
  • A copy of your identity photo
  • Certified copies of your academic achievements of Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree/ PhD. These copies should be in English.
  • Your English isn’t your native language; you must provide a certified language certificate that you have passed the English test.
  • Two recommendation letters. One should be from someone related to your work (i.e. your manager or university chancellor), and the other should confirm your qualifications.

Your application and supporting documents, alongside other applicant forms, will be submitted to the headquarters of UNESCO by the National Commission for UNESCO of your country before 10 May 2024.

Step 5: Upon getting nominated as a candidate for this programme, you will be required to submit your application by email to agh.poland@unesco.org. In addition, you will also be required to complete and submit this online information sheet.

If you’re looking to apply for this fellowship, here are some of the key points you should note regarding submission of applications and the selection process involved:

  1. Only applications endorsed by National Commissions for UNESCO will be considered.
  2. Applicants must submit their application documents through their National Commissions.
  3. The deadline for submission is Friday, 10 May 2024, 12 pm Paris time.
  4. Incomplete or late applications will not be considered.
  5. Polish authorities will select fellowship recipients, considering gender equality and diversity.
  6. UNESCO will inform the National Commissions of selected fellows.

VISA Requirements

Suppose you are from countries with such diplomatic representation (Polish embassy or consulate). In that case, you will have to obtain your visa via the nearest Embassy or Consulate of the Republic of Poland. But, if you are from a country with Polish Embassies or Consulates, you must obtain your entry visas to Poland before departure.

However, it is important to note that passport and visa expenses (all the costs associated with obtaining their visas) will be covered by you. That means neither UNESCO nor the Government of the Republic of Poland will be liable for that.
