University of Pretoria & Mastercard Foundation Scholarship Program for African Students 2024

Since January 2014, the University of Pretoria (UP) has partnered with the Mastercard Foundation to provide scholarships to outstanding African students at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

And as of January 2024, this partnership enters a new phase, focusing on academically talented individuals facing economic challenges. This includes individuals with disabilities, as well as internally displaced persons and refugees across Africa.

The goal is to empower these scholars to contribute significantly to Africa’s development through their expertise, leadership, and commitment to community service and internships.

Requirements For University of Pretoria/Mastercard Foundation Scholarship Program

The University of Pretoria/Mastercard Foundation Scholarship Program requirements are as follows:

  1. Academic Enrollment: Applicants must have applied to and been accepted by the University of Pretoria for their chosen academic level, be it Undergraduate, Honours, or Masters studies. This ensures that scholars are enrolled in a recognized academic program.
  2. Leadership and Community Engagement: Candidates are expected to demonstrate leadership qualities and a strong commitment to community service. This can be showcased through active involvement in various projects, school initiatives, or contributions to religious organizations.
  3. Exceptional Academic Performance: Scholars must maintain a high level of academic excellence throughout their studies. That means maintaining a consistently high academic average, reflecting their dedication to their studies and ability to excel academically is essential.
  4. Targeted Demographic: The scholarship program is specifically designed to support African youths facing significant socio-economic challenges. This includes individuals who are refugees, Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), and those with disabilities. By targeting this demographic, the program aims to provide opportunities for those facing additional barriers to accessing higher education.

How to Apply

STEP 1: Download and Complete Application Form: Start by downloading and filling out the appropriate application form (either undergraduate or postgraduate) provided in PDF format. Ensure all required supporting documents are included.

STEP 3: Application Review: After submission, your application will undergo a thorough review process. You will receive notification of the outcome once the review is complete. If you don’t receive any communication, it indicates that your application was not successful.

STEP 4: Interview Selection: Successful candidates will proceed to the interview stage as part of the selection process before admission into the program is finalized.
